The concept of Planet Earth Artist began in January 2007 Bali, Indonesia.
I went to a gig to watch the local bands, enjoying the sounds, the food and the people. After chatting with a few I was invited to a bbq the following day. One of the band members from local band, Joni Agung & the Double T, was telling me about the local scene. To my amazement many didn’t own the own instrument but rather hired or borrowed when they could. He too had to borrow a drum kit. I thought, this was crazy. How can a muso go without the joy of owning their own instrument? So then and there I made a pact that I would get this man a drum kit. The idea had begun.
Having worked in the music industry for many years, I contacted wholesalers I have a good relationship with and let them know of what had happened in Bali. To my amazement not only did I get the drum kit, but 25 guitars I could also donate to other musicians in Bali who also are in need. All thanks to Australis Music in Alexandria, Sydney and Dynamic Music, Brookvale, Sydney.
This is the moment when I thought that this is something worthy of continuing. Not donating once only, but looking for people throughout Australasia in need of instruments. To continue this idea I have had the help of many good people to achieve small goals along the way. Of the many, Sam Clarke has embraced this idea and now is part of this team, helping with developing our concept.
Planet Earth Artist strives to help those who are in need of musical instruments. Musicians who don’t have the same opportunities as you and I. This in turn will bring the exposure these bands/musicians need and showcase the talent coming through all parts of Australasia.
Planet Earth Artist embraces any ideas or suggestions you may have. We feel the more people know about this and the more that are directly involved, the greater the chance of us achieving our number one objective. There are many chapters left in this story and I know this idea can unite people regardless of religion, creed or colour. We all deserve music.
